Tengai Ego Amulet
It's not a necklace.
It's a way of life.
Who are you?
"Before I co-founded Komuso, my response to that question was simply my name and profession. That description represents “what” I do, but it doesn’t reveal who I am. It’s perfect for a profile, but it doesn’t define us. We’re bigger than what we do or think. The Komuso monks practiced a unique philosophy of wearing straw hats over their heads (tengai) to remove their ego in daily pursuit of self truth. You don’t have to wear a basket over your head to find your truth, but this amulet will guide you on that daily journey."
- Todd, co-founder Komuso
Who are these monks?
The Komusō, or “monks of nothingness" in ancient Japan, meditated using flutes and wore tengai (straw hats) to cover their heads. The hats symbolized a dismissal of ego (self) which reflected their journey inward to discover truth. Our signature breathing necklace called The Shift is a modern adaptation of their flute, inheriting the ancient practice of meditation to attain enlightenment. As a harmonious compliment to the Shift, the Tengai amulet represents a way to live your truth, known to us as The Komuso Way.
